Commander
The most popular way to play Magic in paper. Commander is a multiplayer format where each player builds a 100-card singleton deck led by a legendary creature — their commander.
Commander is the social heart of Magic. Players build 100-card decks with no duplicate cards (other than basic lands), each helmed by a legendary creature that defines the deck's color identity and often its strategy. Games are typically free-for-all with 3–5 players, which means politics, table talk, and unexpected alliances are part of the experience. The format's enormous card pool and singleton rule make for wildly diverse games — you might face down a finely-tuned combo engine one round and a dinosaur tribal deck the next. Whether you're playing at a kitchen table or a packed LGS night, Commander is where most of Magic's community lives right now.
